Three Reasons
to Learn Chinese in Hangzhou

A High-Tech Living Classroom
As the home of Alibaba and a global leader in the digital economy, Hangzhou is the best place to experience a "cashless" society. Learning Mandarin here allows you to master the vocabulary of the future—e-commerce, fintech, and smart-city tech. Sojourn Abroad programs utilize this setting to help students navigate daily life using local apps, ensuring you learn the most modern, tech-savvy version of the language used in China’s innovative core.
Unmatched Natural Beauty and Serenity
Hangzhou provides a peaceful backdrop for study that most cities lack. The West Lake (Xi Hu), a UNESCO World Heritage site, offers countless teahouses and parks where you can study in silence or engage in "slow-paced" conversations with friendly locals. This tranquil environment reduces the stress, allowing for better retention and a deeper appreciation for the traditional aesthetics that influence Chinese literature and idioms.
Cultural Refinement and "Soft" Mandarin
The Mandarin spoken in Hangzhou is influenced by the "Wu" cultural region, known for its polite, melodic, and refined tones. Studying here encourages a softer, more elegant speaking style compared to the rugged accents of the north. This cultural sophistication extends to the city's famous tea ceremonies and silk markets, where you can practice specialized vocabulary while immersing yourself in the traditions of the Chinese scholarly elite.

This program is extremely affordable compared to many other language programs, especially considering everything it offers. The prices make long-term study in China realistic, without sacrificing quality. What I love most is the flexibility to study in different cities. I was able to live one month in each location and experience two amazing cities, Beijing and Shanghai. Each city offers a completely different lifestyle and learning environment, which keeps the experience fresh and motivating. Few programs give you this many choices of cities while remaining so budget-friendly.
